Human Resources General Policy Template Update - 04/05/06


Bankpolicies.com is proud to announce the immediate availability of our revised Human Resources General Policy Template product.


The revision to this product is in response to the Department of Labor's issuance of an interim final rule on 12/15/05 to amend the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) by adding a requirement that employers provide a notice of the rights, benefits, and obligations of employees and employers under USERRA.  This final rule was effective on January 18, 2006.

We also added several new topics and revised numerous others based upon client requests.


What's New


Topic 5 - Americans with Disabilities Act.  Formerly covered in the "Equal Employment Opportunity" topic, was made into its own topic and expanded upon.


Topic 6 - Employment of Relatives.  Formerly covered in the "Equal Employment Opportunity" topic, was made into its own topic.


Topic 12 - Performance Appraisals.  Outlines the performance appraisal review periods for new hires, non-exempt and exempt employees.


Topic 12 - Job Postings and Opportunities.  Describes policy and procedures for posting and filling positions within the bank.


Topic 18 - Uniformed Serviced Employment and Reemployment Rights ACT (USERRA).  All guidance related to the Act was added to the product.


Topic 24 - No Solicitation or Distribution Policy.  Prohibits employees from making solicitations or distributions within the bank.


Topic 25 - Cellular Phone Policy.  Provides employees with usage guidelines and prohibited acts for business and personal use.


Topic 26 - Smoking Policy.  Outlines a bank's policy with respect to smoke free facilities and employee conduct.


Topic 27 - Drug Free Policy.  Describes a bank's policy to maintain a drug free workplace.

What's Revised


Topic 2 - Policy Description, Authority and Scope.  Two new subtopics "Scope of Policy" and "Policy Responsibility" were added.


Topic 4 - Equal Employment Opportunity.  This topic was slightly expanded and the "Employment of Relatives" subtopic was removed and made into a separate topic.


Topic 7 - Employee Relations.  The subtopic "What the Bank Can Expect from the Employee" was expanded to include additional criteria.


Topic 8 - Introductory Period.  An additional paragraph was added to help clarify the introductory period for non-exempt and exempt employees.


Topic 9 - Orientation.  A new subtopic "Personnel File" was added to describe the minimum contents of an employee's personnel file.  A reference to the use of the new Human Resources General Policy Compliance Certificate was added to the "Department Responsibilities" subtopic.


Topic 10 - Pay Practices.  A new paragraph was added to the "General" subtopic that clarifies the differences in the rate of pay for employees that perform similar jobs.  New subtopics of "Unemployment Insurance" and "Workers' Compensation" were added.


Topic 11 - Work Hours.  The "Eligibility and Classification" subtopic was revised to expand upon the definitions of Regular Full Time, Regular Part Time and On-Call Temporary employee classifications.


Topic 14 - Attendance.  A new subtopic "Medical or Health Related Absences" was added to require a physician's statement when returning to work from such an illness after a client defined period of time.


Topic 16 - Vacation.  A reference to the "Human Resources Request for Chang of Vacation" form was added.


Topic 17 - Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).  The entire section was expanded and now includes subtopics for all related information.


Topic 23 - Violence in the Workplace.  A new subtopic "Firearms and Weapons" was added to prohibit employees from bringing, keeping or bearing such devices.


Topic 30 - Exit Interview.  The entire section was expanded and now includes reference to the Human Resources Exit Interview Checklist.
